PROJECT ART 2010: FIRST ANNUAL SILENT AUCTION IN NEW YORK CITY

In November 2010, Project Paz in conjunction with Amor por Juárez presented the first annualProject Art, a silent art and fashion auction, in New York City’s Meat packing District.Through this event, the organization raised over $90,000 in supportof the Community Based Organizations (CBOs) program,an initiative by the Fundación del Empresariado Chihuahuense, A.C. (FECHAC).With the money raised, Project Paz helped fund capacity and skill building trainings for underdeveloped communities in Ciudad Juarez and heightened awareness about the need for promoting peace in the city.

The hosts for this event –Michael Bastian, Roxana Bruno Lamb, Christian Cota, Amanda Hearst, Carolina Herrera de Baez, Karla Martinez, Rafael Marquez and Sylvana Ward Durrett, included some of the biggest names in fashion, art, sports and entertainment. Over450 people attended the event, including top influencers such as Petra Nemcova, Nate Berkusand Melissa George. Additionally, theevent was a big hit among the New York community and internationally, with media coverage reaching an estimated eight million people in the United States, Mexico and around the world.

Anne Huntington of AMH Industries and Amanda Alvarez co-curated the XX original pieces of art inspired by Juarez that were generously donated by artists from both the United States and Mexico.
