Pictures for Paz

Pictures for Paz
Pictures for Paz is a photography program for children in Juarez founded as a joint collaboration between Project Paz and the Duggal Big Picture Foundation, a philanthropic arm of Duggal Visual Solutions. The initial pilot program launched in Summer 2013 with a curriculum developed by renowned Mexican photographer, Monica Lozano, and overseen by photography instructor, Luis Arenas. In this eight-week summer course, children learned the basics of photography with digital cameras generously donated by B&H Photo of New York. Class topics included understanding how cameras work, history of the discipline, composition and light, capturing landscapes and portraiture, and developing a photographic narrative. Mexican jewelry designers Phoebe and Annette Stephens, the creative duo behind Anndra Neen, selected the twelve most impactful images captured by the students. The images were enlarged as plexi-mounted artworks to be auctioned in October 21, 2013 at the Project Art fundraiser in New York City. All proceeds will benefit Project Paz and the efforts to expand the photography program. Pictures for Paz brings an opportunity for children to express themselves creatively and get familiarized with the latest technology. The combined efforts between Project Paz and the Duggal Big Picture Foundation aim to inspire these children to rise above challenging circumstances. IMG_0625-9
